Account vs Creative – Hatfield and McCoy’s

Trust is lip service within the halls of many agencies. We’re fighting amongst ourselves in the turf war between the creative department and account services. Why do we fight at all? Lack of trust. Account people don’t trust creatives to speak to clients, don’t expect them to understand that the creative product has to meet marketing AND business goals. Creative people don’t trust account people to have enough backbone to walk into the client and sell the best creative or tell the client no for the right reason. So instead we fight for control when we should be working together to make the work and the client relationship as great as it can be.

Thou Shalt Not Art Direct (Unless You’re the Art Director)

We had a great meeting here at the global headquarters recently of folks in the local Tampa creative community. It was a great discussion but something struck me as really odd that I just have to comment on. There are many agencies who don’t bring their creative leadership to client meetings, even when the subject is – gasp – selling creative!

So let me get this straight – your creative team is pushed (mostly by account people like myself) to deliver great work. Then you don’t allow them to follow through with the client? I’m sure that will keep your creative team inspired to push through tough deadlines and kill themselves for great work . . . insert sarcastic smirk here.

A Campaign’s Success – 90 Days In

As many of you probably already know, we have been working with the State of Georgia to launch a statewide campaign to promote awareness of and increased participation in curbside recycling. This was a great challenge because we needed to not only create a statewide campaign that would resonate with residents across Georgia but we also need to be able to roll it out to local communities across the state. The campaign’s official launch was June 1st of this year. Since we are approaching 90 days we thought this would be a good time to circle back and talk about some of the results we have seen already along with some things we have learned through the process.
